There are two classes of Christian songwriters in this world. First there are those of us that live in Nashville... or maybe L.A. This group knows what they need to know, has the talent they need to possess, and already has the connections they need. They pitch songs to major-label artists on a regular basis, and their great aspiration is to have a Dove award or two gathering dust on the mantle at home.
The second group of Christian songwriters is made of those who don’t possess the necessary knowledge, have the innate talent, or know the business contacts that would put them in touch with their dream: to be a professional Christian songwriter.
Let me offer you a bit of hope. You see, knowledge takes money and time. Talent takes dedication and focus. Connections, well... you probably have to be in the right place at the right time. However, today is your moment of hope. You see, there are not “Haves” and “Have-nots” in the end...
Picture with me, if you will, your life AFTER you have “made it” as a songwriter: You no longer worry about the things you don’t know, the things you can’t do, and the people that won’t look at you or your work. You have proven yourself as a competent, valuable professional with something to offer, and people come to you. You have plenty of time to devote to songwriting itself... a novel idea!
You see, the only difference between the “haves” and the “have-nots” is one deciding factor: the determination to seize every opportunity that comes their way. Nobody gets to pick the cards that life deals them, but every man chooses how he plays his hand.
